at 13 and 8 years old, nya + zuri created an all-soap cosmetics container that leaves absolutely no waste. they dubbed it the “save mars project” BECAUSE, conVINCED that THIS WORLD IS DOOMED BY adults, THEY SIMPLY HOPE TO HELP SAVE THE NEXT ONE. THEY BELIEVE IT IS UP TO THEIR GENERATION (AND BEYOND) TO BE SMARTER, MORE INNOVATIVE, AND TO BUILD A BETTER FUTURE FOR THEMSELVES - STARTING TODAY.

BEFORE THE PATENT, THIS WAS THE PROCESS
National Geographic opens our eyes
In 2018, at 9 years old, Nya asks for a National Geographic magazine while standing in the grocery store’s checkout lane. Completely disturbed by its articles, she immediately declares that she no longer wants hunnybunny to sell single-use plastic.
Bio-plastic trials fail
For years, Nya + Zuri try to create a plastic-alternative that is all-natural, strong and decomposes in a matter of a couple of years (compared to plastic’s 500 year lifecycle). Instead, their bio-plastic decomposes in a matter of months - flaking, shrinking, cracking and falling apart.
Nya learns to use Tinkercad & changes course
Attending DC’s public schools, Nya takes a design and engineering class - exposing her to Tinkercad’s design software. As soap makers, it dawns on the team to try replacing its bio-plastic trials with the one thing they’ve successfully made for years - SOAP! - and designing a container that meets their specific targets (price, weight, strength, etc).
Molds are created
Utilizing the Tinkercad designs they created, Nya + Zuri built 3D models of their container and created molds to caste their creation.
Failures meet the team
Every feature Nya + Zuri designed seemed to pose a problem for the physical container they created. Lids would not fit. Thick and clunky containers still fractured during manufacturing. Interior cylinders and threads would not align. Content would leak.
Patent Filed
Persistence endured. For over a year, Nya + Zuri continued to redesign, rebuild, remold, and recreate. On April 4th of 2022, with the help of the Howard University Law School’s IP Patent Clinic, Nya + Zuri filed for their very first patent.
